Past financial supporters include the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, New York Council for the Humanities, the Brooklyn Arts Council, Jim Henson Foundation, Neda Nobari Foundation, Zellerbach Family Foundation, Strypemonde Foundation and American Institute of Iranian Studies.
Two Chairs is dedicated to supporting artistic expression through multi-disciplinary, collaborative practices. Our organization champions creators whose artistic visions are founded in the principles of access and inclusion. Two Chairs supports the work of artists through a wide range of relationships among ensembles, artists, presenters, audiences and communities. We believe that a strong resilient society requires a rich tapestry of diverse voices and are committed to advocating for the inclusion of historically underrepresented and marginalized artists with an emphasis on identity and cultural representation.
Two Chairs strives to create a collaborative environment where decision-making is artist-led. We are a program-based organization interested in ensemble structures where equity, transparency and inclusion are paramount. Our organization does not have a traditional infrastructure where board members set the goals and directives for operations and programming. Instead, we are a collective group of artists and media makers who come together with equal voices on all matters. The collective is encouraged to take the lead on group and individual projects that fit without our mission statement. We promote a strong sense of belief in one other and foster confidence in accepting differences among the group. Two Chairs encourages the sharing of resources and information to support and lift up one another. We strongly believe that through art we have the power to positively impact our world.
